The
manta
rays glide through
the sea with ease: rippling
wings propel them: do they dream walk
on dry ground as I dream
of floating
above
trees?

I
waited
patiently
for hippopotamus
to gape her mouth: a vast pink chasm:
blunt bone teeth: bulk under
water: those
wiggly
ears.

Jim, these diamonds really sparkle! Mantas are so graceful...what fun thinking of them "dream walking" on dry ground!! How truthfully your words painted the magnificient hippo! Gives me the urge to paint her on canvas!
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see that painting ...set in a pool surrounded by blooming hibiscus.
ReplyDeleteThese are fun! I love the description of the manta dreaming--I can picture it floating silently over my head, its edges rippling a little in the wind--mysterious, beautiful, and terrifying. --Karen
